capitalism isn't what you think it is

People tend to defend capitalism because they like free markets and people getting rewarded for work / innovation.

Thing is, neither of those things is intrinsic to capitalism. Capitalism itself is the idea that people deserve money just by owning things (profits, dividends, investments, stock / land appreciation, rent).

It doesn’t matter how you got that initial money. Someone who innovated to earn a million dollars gets the same stock dividends as someone who inherited a million dollars. Someone who makes smart investments gets barely more money than someone who just sits on land and lets it appreciate.

Lazy investors and those who squander inherited wealth should be taxed, not people earning income, making smart investments, or innovating.
