My undergrad dorm had a reputation for being one where everyone knew each other, and I think that was largely due to it being a tall building with an old and slow elevator - people were forced to congregate in the lobby and make small talk on the ride up.
The subtlest differences in how we design our spaces makes all the difference. (I mean, I’m not an architect or sociologist, but I don’t think this is too controversial)
