diversity

One of my core beliefs is that diversity is important. While this applies to racial diversity, I think it also applies to ideas such as diversity of thought, diversity of interests, and diversity of your social circle

Even the smartest people in the world have cognitive biases and blindspots that you simply cannot overcome without engaging in other perspectives.

Wisdom comes from unexpected places, which is why I try my damndest to try as many things out, keep an open mind, avoid dismissal, and engage with those who have different beliefs than I do

work life balance
- Another problem with overworking is that I enjoy diversity in the activities I do, and focusing too much on work means that I may not have time to do a variety of activities.
lenses
- Diversity is important as a way to gain perspective and have the ability to look at the same problem or event through different lenses.
informal learning
- Playing games and having diverse experiences teaches you things. I think this informal learning is under-appreciated in a fast paced, STEM focused, and competitive world. One of my driving goals is determining how to encourage and enable informal learning.
identity politics
- I think in modern times identity politics often refers to the tendency to vote someone in because they are of a certain identity and thus promote diversity.
do things
- Doing things outside your comfort zone gives you the benefits of diversity. You have no idea where a new thought or change in worldview will come from.
diversity
- One of my core beliefs is that diversity is important. While this applies to racial diversity, I think it also applies to ideas such as diversity of thought, diversity of interests, and diversity of your social circle
differing approaches
- Different approaches to the same problems have differing benefits. Having diversity, especially diversity of thought can be helpful to allow for the benefits of these different approaches to work in tandem.
Why study ethics
- Studying ethics doesn’t necessarily make someone a more ethical person, as a matter of fact I feel like empathy and meeting diverse people would do you a lot better there. In fact, there’s some evidence that ethics professors aren’t actually any more ethical than us.
Who am I - personally
- I think one of my core beliefs is diversity. I like doing as many things as possible and meeting as many people as possible because I feel like that’s the only real way to learn about the world.

- Pluralism is having a variety of options, including options that match yourself. Diversity is experience and interaction with marginalized groups.
Buffalo
- Teaches people to think about diversity because you may flip over pairs that are non-stereotypical. If you flipped “female chemist” and were unable to come up with an answer, it could prompt discussion about why female physicists aren’t common in popular culture. One player flipped over “attractive feminist” and snickered because their perception of feminists were ugly man haters. This led to a teachable moment about what feminism is when the male host of the game said “oh you don’t think I’m handsome? I’m a feminist”.
