death

This note last modified September 1, 2024

I fear that much of the philosophy around death is wishful philosophy, worshiping thirst, when one lives in a desert Whether or not those philosophies are valid, waxing poetic about how death gives life meaning is done better by others, so let me talk about some other aspects of death that interest me:

  • death of a self
  • the tail end
  • everyone has value
  • the death of who we are

Backlinks

  • wishful philosophy
    • There are many philosophers who have talked about how negative things such as death, pain, or sadness give life meaning, and are ultimately important for humans to experience to be fully realized.

    • I feel odd about that though… I wonder if these philosophers are just saying that because they are afraid of death, or sadness, and try to ascribe meaning to the absurd just so that they can feel better about it.

  • time
    • Time is one of the most universal aspects of the human experience, it touches everything. Time is death.

  • sadness
    • Similar to the problem of death, I fear that much of the philosophy of sadness is wishful philosophy

  • rot
    • death and dying worlds

  • everyone has value
    • Every person looks at the world a different way, has millions of different experiences, has such incredible complexity. If consciousness is the universe experiencing itself, then every death is a death of a universe, and that is so incredibly, existentially, sad.

  • death of a relationship
    • death relationships

  • Why We Love Sex and Violence
    • Discusses the history of death in games.
